As a 2008 Olympian, Micaela is our most capped Tall Fern of all time with 141 games in the NZ singlet.Ìý As the only player to appear at both the 2006 and 2018 Commonwealth games, winning silver and bronze at those competitions, she showed her versatility in winning gold at the FIBA 3×3 ASIA Cup in 2018.
Growing up on Auckland’s North Shore and representing Takapuna Grammar and Harbour in her formative years, she enjoyed a decorated Collegiate career at the University of Oregon, with 125 games in 4 seasons, scoring at 10 points per game and no doubt hounding opposing players with that annoying, physical in your face defence.
A year in Poland was followed by 10 seasons with the Townsville Fire, winning three Australian WNBL Championships, posting a record 240 appearances for the Fire, she is a life member and late last year had her number 32 singlet retired.
She returned to play locally, giving back to the game and continuing to torment rivals as she turned out for the Northern Kahu in the Tauihi League, averaging 18 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal per game to earn All Star Five status in 2022.
Micaela is a true superstar of our game, an inspiring leader, a player who went hand in hand with success and championships winning team and personal accolades throughout a decorated career, and mother to Daisy and Hazel (pictured) who were both present to support their mum at the Awards presentation.
